Assam tea brand adopts blockchain tech to attract foreign buyers, earn millions in revenue

Guwahati: Earth Tea, an innovative brand launched by a dynamic startup, is leading the charge towards what it calls 'Tea Industry 2.0,' marking a revolution in the global tea market. The brand focuses on the untapped potential of specialty teas like white, purple, and premium single-estate teas, offering health-conscious consumers a unique and exceptional tea experience. With Indian teas long known for their bold flavours and global acclaim, Earth Tea seeks to elevate the reputation of Indian specialty teas to world-class status.

Each tea in Earth Tea’s collection is expertly crafted by Tea Masters, artisans who skillfully blend tradition and innovation. These teas are not just beverages but rare creations, with some batches made from leaves picked under unique natural conditions - like during full moon nights - imbued with the characteristics of the region’s flora and fauna. This craftsmanship results in extraordinary tea profiles that reflect both the environment and the heritage of the estates.

To highlight the exclusivity of their offerings, Earth Tea has introduced the Tea Matrix, a system designed to document the limited-edition nature of each tea. Consumers can access this through customised NFC cards, which reveal the tea’s journey from the estate to the cup, along with lab certifications ensuring purity and quality. Some teas, such as those made on rare astronomical events like a super full moon, may even have a 1:10 rarity.

When asked about Earth Tea's business revenue during an interview with Kajol of Business North East (BNE), Pooja Sutodiya stated, "It's been a year, and we have achieved about a million in revenue. I believe it will continue to grow with time."

A standout feature of Earth Tea is its integration of cutting-edge technologies, including blockchain, IoT, and AI. Blockchain ensures complete transparency and traceability, allowing consumers to verify the origins of their tea, from the estate where it was harvested to the exact day of production. This level of accountability is crucial in the premium tea market, where prices can reach Rs. 1 lakh per kilogram. Despite the high costs of implementing such technologies, Earth Tea has managed to integrate them, marking a significant stride toward modernising the tea industry.
