Guwahati: The Assam State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India), in collaboration with the Pollution Control Board of Assam, observed World Water Day 2025 at its premises in Panbazar, Guwahati, on Saturday.
World Water Day, celebrated annually on March 22 since 1993, aims to raise awareness about freshwater conservation and promote efforts toward achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Water and Sanitation for All by 2030. This year’s theme, "Glacier Preservation", underscored the critical need to protect and sustain glaciers, which serve as essential freshwater sources.
The event was graced by Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita (Retd.) as the Chief Guest, while Sudip Mitra, Professor & Head of the School of Agro & Rural Technology, IIT Guwahati, delivered the keynote address, elaborating on the theme’s significance. To mark the occasion, a Souvenir Cum Technical Volume and the quarterly newsletter of the Centre were released.
A Technical Session was also conducted, where five selected technical papers related to the theme were presented by faculty members, research scholars, technocrats, scientists, and hydro consultants.
The organisers had extended invitations to corporate members of the Centre, engineers from various government departments, scientists, faculty members, students from technical institutions, and well-wishers, who actively participated and contributed to the success of the event.
With a strong emphasis on sustainable water management, the event served as a platform to foster awareness and facilitate discussions on preserving water resources for future generations.
