Guwahati: The Assam Industrial Development Corporation Limited (AIDC), in partnership with the Department of Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises, hosted the Assam Semiconductor Conclave on December 6 at Kar Bhawan, Guwahati. The event underscored Assam's ambitions to become a key player in India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
Prominent leaders such as Ravi Kota, Chief Secretary of Assam, Bimal Borah, Minister of Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises, Secretary of the Industries Department, IAS Lakshmanan S, and Project Head of Tata Electronics Asish Mishra graced the conclave, which brought together stakeholders to chart a roadmap for Assam’s industrial transformation.
The Assam Semiconductor Conclave 2024 facilitated dynamic business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-government (B2G) discussions among vendors, partners, and investors. The conclave featured discussions on infrastructure development, raw material sourcing, and manufacturing strategies to drive the state's semiconductor ambitions.
“The Tata semiconductor project is promising. Mitsui will supply 50% of the raw materials required for this venture. This collaboration illustrates the immense potential of Assam as a manufacturing hub," a Japanese vendor representing Mitsui & Co., Ltd., one of the global leaders in material supply, said.
Commerce and Industries Minister Bimal Borah also shared the state’s strategic vision.
“The 2,700 crore Rs semiconductor project under construction will catalyze the establishment of ancillary units and raw material production facilities. With 38 manufacturing companies already on board, our Advantage Assam 2.0 initiative has been designed to attract global manufacturers and vendors, fostering an ecosystem that can propel Assam into India’s top five industrial states,” Bimal Borah stated.
Moreover, this vision aligns with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma's focus on creating employment opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers, as workers from Assam are currently being trained in Bengaluru to meet the skill requirements of this burgeoning sector.

Chief Secretary Ravi Kota emphasized the pivotal role of Guwahati Airport in enabling seamless import of raw materials, a cornerstone of the semiconductor production process. He also announced Tata’s plan to establish a hotel in Jagiroad inspired by the late Ratan Tata’s vision, further boosting the local economy and employment.
With 38 companies committed to the semiconductor initiative and strategic partnerships with global players like Mitsui, Assam is poised to create a thriving economic environment. This development marks a significant step in Assam's evolution into a global manufacturing hub, leveraging the state’s resources, workforce, and vision.
