Guwahati: The Assam government's 'Nijut Moina Scheme' is set to launch on October 11, with the release of its first installment. The scheme seeks to offer monthly stipends to girls from class 11 to post-graduation to deter child marriages.

Under this scheme, girls in higher secondary classes (11th and 12th) will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000 from the government. Those enrolling in degree or graduation courses will get Rs 1,250 monthly, while postgraduate students will receive Rs 2,500 monthly

Notably, the scheme has an annual budget of Rs. 300 crore and aims to benefit one million students. This year alone, over 200,000 girls are expected to benefit from the scheme, which will provide direct benefit transfers (DBT) every month except for June and July.

The scheme focuses on providing regular financial support to alleviate financial burdens and encourage more girls to pursue higher education. With its rollout imminent, students and families across the state can anticipate the positive impact of this transformative initiative.

By providing direct financial assistance to students, regardless of their economic background, the government aims to create more opportunities for girls to access and excel in education.
