Guwahati: The 43rd India International Trade Fair, organized by the India Trade Promotion Organisation, has been underway at Bharat Mandapam since November 14. Numerous Indian states and international exhibitors are participating in the event, which showcases a vibrant exchange of trade, culture, and innovation.
The Assam pavilion, a key attraction, has garnered attention for its unique emphasis on the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative. Representing Assam, 35 stalls have been set up at no rental cost, highlighting a wide range of products including Agar, processed foods, Shital Pati, bell metal artefacts, bamboo crafts, Kazi lemons, pitha, robotics, air-dry clay jewellery, and water hyacinth products.’
According to Manju Rani Gogoi, the state ensured participation from every district, aligning with ODOP’s goals. The pavilion not only showcased Assam’s cultural heritage but also explored what visitors outside Assam expect from the region.
“The two-week-long event is structured into two segments: the first week focused on Business-to-Business (B2B) networking, while the second-week transitions into Customer-to-Business (C2B) interactions. Notably, November 22 was celebrated as Assam Day, with special displays and cultural programs,” Joint Director of Ministry of Industries and Commerce Manju Rani Gogoi told Business North East.
Participants in the Assam pavilion received travel and daily allowances, with the Government of Assam reimbursing second-class sleeper charges. "Many visitors, especially from Delhi, showed interest in products like 'pitha' and 'water hyacinth' items," Manju Rani Gogoi said.
