Guwahati: State Minister of Industries and Commerce and Public Enterprises Bimal Borah attended a meeting on September 1 held at Assam Agricultural University Jorhat to discuss the avenues of further fortifying and optimising tea production across Assam.

Borah, along with Vice Chancellor Dr Bidyut Chandan Deka, explored avenues of helping the tea gardens of Assam to optimise production while also finding ways to produce different varieties of teas to meet the dynamic requirements of tea connoisseurs and consumers across the globe.

It was also discussed how the residuals of the tea plants can be discussed to develop innovative solutions that could not only lead to sustainable practices but also unlock new avenues for economic growth and environmental conservation in the region.

The Secretary of the Department of Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises, Dr Lakhsmanan S, also attended the meeting.
The minister also visited the tea gardens at the university campus and reviewed the various research works in progress.

Borah tweeted that in an increasingly competitive market, the tea industry of Assam remains resilient, adapting to changing consumer preferences while preserving its rich heritage.
