Guwahati: The Apparel, Made-ups & Home Furnishings Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) has unveiled its latest Center of Excellence (CoE), marking the fifth establishment of its kind in the series, officials have revealed. The primary objective of this CoE is to tackle the challenges encountered by the state's apparel sector, with a specific focus on enhancing efficiency in product development, research, and workforce skilling.
The centre will provide a slew of courses, ranging from Industrial Engineering and Production Supervision to Fashion Sampling Coordination and Fashion Business & Marketing. As per reports, the inauguration ceremony was attended by esteemed dignitaries including Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy, the principal secretary, and R. K. Singh (Retd), managing director of North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation.
Dr A Sakthivel, Chairman of AMHSSC, expressed deep gratitude and reaffirmed the Council's commitment to supporting the government's aim of promoting the growth and competitiveness of Assam's garment sector.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Yadav, Chief Executive Officer of AMHSSC, provided a broader perspective on the Centre's impact, stating, "Centre of Excellence is designed to serve as a hub for project work, internships, seminars, workshops, and upskilling programs, ensuring that students and professionals stay on top of the latest industry trends. This project seeks to stimulate innovation and raise the standards of the Northeast's garment sector."
He stated that as an excellence center, it will play an important role in developing talent, boosting economic development, and contributing to the overall growth of the apparel industry in Assam and the Northeast.
