Assam Industry Minister and Union Commerce Minister attend rubber plantation review meeting in Itanagar

Guwahati: Assam Industry Minister Bimal Borah and Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal attended a rubber plantation review meeting at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, on Monday. The meeting discussed various policies and programs under the Act East Policy, initiated under the present government, officials said.

The rubber industry in Assam has experienced unprecedented industrial growth, generating jobs, contributing to global trade, and earning foreign exchange. The NE MITRA scheme, a collaborative effort between the Rubber Board and rubber-consuming industries, has been instrumental in amplifying rubber cultivation and setting ambitious targets for planting and production.

Borah highlighted Assam's lead in the North Eastern region in rubber plantation coverage of 61,716 hectares and annual production of 58,359 Metric Tonnes. He also highlighted the investment of over Rs,13,000 crore by the present state government and the setting up of a semi-conductor Plant by the Tata Group.

Borah expressed gratitude to Goyal for his continuous support and guidance in achieving the goal of establishing Assam and the Northeast as the next engine of growth and a hub of industrial innovation and prosperity. The meeting was attended by various officials and representatives of the rubber board.
