Assam Government to start rebuilding infrastructure destroyed from flood

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today stated that the state government will start rebuilding infrastructure from next month which has been destroyed by the flood. He said that the assessment of infrastructure damage is underway and the team will start infrastructure rebuilding works from September this year.

A total of 88.47 Lakh population in 34 districts have been affected in the 1st and 2nd wave of flood. 4,097 relief camps and 5,871 relief distribution centres were set up. A total of 7,43,528 people took shelter in the relief camp and 98,652 people have been rescued.

A total of Rs. 119.10 Crores gets sanctioned

The CM also announced the disbursement of funds for the survivors. A total of Rs. 119.10 Crores as flood rehabilitation will be transferred to those affected. “Till now, 180 people across 34 districts have lost their lives due to flood and 19 people have died in landslides” he added.

Special grant from Chief Minister Relief Fund (CMRF) will be also distributed to 309 families whose houses were completely washed away, over and above the Rehabilitation Grant being disbursed by the government from SDRF of revenue and disaster management department at Rs. 1,00,000 totalling Rs. 3.09 Crores.

The fund will be transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) against the affected people.

The disaster not only claimed lives but also destroyed around 2.40 Lakh hectares of cropland in 34 districts. Recently, two Inter-Ministerial Central Teams visited the affected areas to assess the damage.

Plans to revive the fish farming industry

Earlier this month, the Fisheries Minister of Assam , Parimal Suklabaidya said that the fish farmers who incurred massive losses due to flood will be granted financial aid by the state government.

Suklabaidya said “ “Nearly 80 percent of the fish farmers of the state have faced a huge loss and the value of the loss is estimated to be over Rs 1,000 crore. We have collected the data from different districts of the state. By July 15, we will be able to get the exact figure. But the preliminary report shows that nearly 80 percent of fish farmers of the state have been affected.”

In an attempt to revive the fish industry the Assam Government has intended to supply aid and standard fish seeds to the affected fish farmers.

“Schemes like Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY), Ghare Ghare Pukhuri Ghare Ghare Maach are going on in full swing across the state and the gap between total demand and production has now been decreasing. We have now achieved 96 per cent of total demand,” Suklabaidya said.
