New Delhi: Arunish Chawla, a senior civil servant, has been appointed as the new revenue secretary on Wednesday. Chawla, who is currently pharmaceuticals secretary, is an IAS officer from Bihar cadre belonging to the 1992 batch. He will head the department of revenue in the ministry of finance.
This position was left vacant after Sanjay Malhotra's appointment as the Reserve Bank of India governor this month.
Additionally, Chawla will hold temporary charge of the ministry of culture secretary position till a permanent appointment is finalized.
The chief executive officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India, Amit Agrawal, will replace Chawla as the pharmaceuticals secretary. Vineet Joshi, who is currently the chief secretary of Manipur, has been chosen as the higher education secretary.

Joshi, who hails from the 1992 IAS batch, had taken over as Manipur chief secretary in May 2023, after working as additional secretary in the department of higher education. The department of personnel and training will be headed by Rachna Shah who is currently the secretary textiles.
Sanjay Sethi, the senior IAS officer serving in Maharashtra, will helm the National Commission for Minorities, replacing Neelam Shammi Rao, who will take over as the textiles secretary from Shah.

The order also confirms that Neerja Sekhar, who is currently special secretary in the ministry of information and Broadcasting, will take up the position of director general at the national productivity council under the department for promotion of industry and internal trade.
