Guwahati: The Assam government has approved a 4% hike in dearness allowance (DA) for State government employees, pensioners, and All India Service officers, effective from January 1. This decision will increase the dearness allowance for state government employees from 38% to 42%.

In addition, the Assam Cabinet has given the green light to the construction of a 1,000-MW solar power plant in Karbi Anglong under the 'Mukhya Mantri Sauro Shakti Prokolpo.' The plant will be built on an Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) mode by the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) at a projected cost of Rs. 4,000 crore.

This solar plant will generate an estimated 1988 MU of energy per year, making it a significant contributor to the fulfillment of India's SDG 2030 goals and Renewable Power Obligations (RPO), as well as enhancing the state's energy security. Moreover, it will act as a catalyst to expedite the Act East policy.

Furthermore, the council of ministers has approved the raising of Rs. 2,031.14 crore from NABARD for infrastructure upgradation. The funding will include 110 rural roads, a road over-bridge, 58 road-cum-embankments, 38 flood projects, and 23 fishery projects. Approximately 21.3 lakh people across 1,414 villages and around 1,08,176 hectares of land will benefit from these projects, which will offer protection to those living in the area and enable around 500 farmers to benefit from the fishery projects.
