Shillong: The success of PRIME, an entrepreneurial programme, has prompted the Meghalaya government to extend further support to startups.

The government has increased the upper limit of the startup grant from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh per entrepreneur. It has also doubled the amount of zero-interest loan to Rs 50 lakh.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had earlier said entrepreneurship would remain a crucial engine for employment generation.

In July 2022, Meghalaya was awarded the best performer title in the States' Startup Ranking 2021 by the Centre after the success of the PRIME programme. So far, over 4,000 entrepreneurs have benefitted from the programme.

The state will also set up PRIME hubs in all district headquarters to nurture a district-level entrepreneur ecosystem.
