Assam CM Launches 12-Day Drive To Support 12 Lakh Families With Welfare Schemes

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has launched a 12-day development initiative to benefit 12 lakh families with government welfare schemes in the state. The programme took place at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati. 
 
As part of the initiative, the Chief Minister distributed cash awards to 26,969 students securing 75 per cent or above in the HSLC examination under the Anundoram Borooah Merit Scholarship, 323640 bicycles to Class IX students under the Chief Minister's Special Scheme, and 48,673 scooters to girl students with first division in higher secondary and boys securing 75 per cent or above marks under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award of Pragyan Bharati Scheme.

"Starting today, Team Assam will embark on a 12-day journey to visit the people and distribute grants and assistance under various welfare schemes," Assam's Himanta Biswa Sarma said while speaking at the event. "This 12-day period will ensure financial and moral support to 12 lakh families across the state," he added.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister congratulated the recipients and asked them to inculcate virtues of diligence, discipline, dedication, and perseverance, becoming able citizens. He encouraged them to empower themselves and contribute to national movements like Skill India, Digital India, and Start-up India. He called on the students to strive to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

The CM also urged girls not to discontinue their studies under any circumstances and advised educated girls to apply for government jobs after completing their studies. He mentioned that obtaining government jobs has become fairer and more transparent.

"As the state government embarks on this 12-day journey, additional incentives are being rolled out. Under the Assam Microfinance Incentive and Relief Scheme, over 78,000 borrowers will benefit from a relief package totalling Rs. 223.30 crore to restore their creditworthiness and financial stability," CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, adding that Rs. 353.37 crore will be distributed to over 6.86 lakh disaster-affected families for home reconstruction, livelihood aid and essential supplies while Rs. 21.90 crore will be distributed to 6,490 SHG members to support food processing units to promote industrial growth in the region.

The Chief Minister also advised students who received scooters under the Pragyan Bharti Scheme to obtain a valid driving licence before riding and to wear helmets for safety, according to ANI.
