Dibrugarh: The Assam Cabinet led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met on Monday took several significant decisions.
Assam government approved the floriculture mission during the cabinet meeting.
The Assam Floriculture Mission aims to support the state's farmers and grow the floriculture sector, covering 20,000 farmers with an initial investment of Rs. 150 crore.
In addition to the floriculture mission, the cabinet decided to build a new Raj Bhavan in Tezpur and establish an additional Chief Minister's secretariat in Dibrugarh. As part of the government's initiatives to better help and empower the state's young, the employment exchanges will also be transformed into youth welfare offices.
Following the meeting, the chief minister (CM) informed the media that a State Floriculture Mission had been approved due to the high demand for flowers in Assam, which is now met by supplies from Kolkata and even Thailand.
Within three years, it will increase the area used for flower cultivation from 2,200 hectares to 3,288 hectares.
After paddy and fishing, the chief minister stated, "we are now concentrating on reaching self-sufficiency in floriculture."
He also launched a slew of initiatives and projects for the Dibrugarh area, valued at between 1,500 and 2,000 crore.
