Guwahati: Tata Motors, India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer, inaugurated its state-of-the-art registered vehicle scrapping facility (RVSF) in Guwahati yesterday. The new facility, named Re.Wi.Re – Recycle with Respect, is set to revolutionise vehicle recycling in the region by safely dismantling up to 15,000 end-of-life vehicles annually using sustainable and environmentally conscious processes. Operated by Tata Motors’ partner, Axom Platinum Scrappers, the facility will handle both passenger and commercial vehicles of all brands.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone for Tata Motors, as it is the seventh such facility launched in India, joining similar ones in Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Surat, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, and Pune. This new facility in Guwahati is the first in Northeast India, further cementing Tata Motors’ leadership in sustainable vehicle disposal and contributing to the broader goals of the government’s vehicle scrappage policy.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by key dignitaries including Shri Jogen Mohan, Minister of Hill Areas Development, Transport, Co-operation, Indigenous and Tribal Faith & Culture, and Shri Ashok Singhal, Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Irrigation, alongside Mr Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, and Dr Sanjive Narain, Director of Axom Automobiles. Senior officials from the Government of Assam, Tata Motors, and Axom Automobiles were also present at the event.
Shri Jogen Mohan, in his address, emphasised the positive impact the facility will have on Assam’s economy, creating valuable employment opportunities and supporting the region’s sustainable growth. He stated, “The launch of this advanced vehicle recycling facility will ensure the safe disposal of end-of-life vehicles, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to a cleaner environment. I thank Tata Motors for pioneering the introduction of such smart facilities in Assam.”
Shri Ashok Singhal, Minister of Health, Family Welfare, and Irrigation, also expressed his enthusiasm for the facility's contribution to a greener Assam. He said, “The inauguration of Tata Motors’ Re.Wi.Re -facility in Guwahati is a significant step towards fostering a cleaner and greener environment. This modern facility will promote sustainable vehicle disposal while benefiting both the environment and the people of Assam.”
Mr Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, highlighted the company’s commitment to the principles of a circular economy. He said, “With the launch of the Northeast’s first Re.Wi.Re facility in Guwahati, Tata Motors takes a major step in advancing responsible vehicle scrapping in the region. Through our network of RVSFs across seven states, we can now dismantle over 100,000 end-of-life vehicles annually, supporting sustainable practices in the automotive industry.”

The Re.Wi.Re facility in Guwahati is fully digitalised, ensuring paperless and seamless operations. It features advanced dismantling systems, including cell-type and line-type stations for both passenger and commercial vehicles. Dedicated stations are set up for the safe disposal of components such as tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids, and gases. Each vehicle undergoes a detailed documentation and dismantling process to ensure compliance with the country’s scrappage policy, guaranteeing the responsible disposal of all vehicle parts.
