Guwahati: Assam Book Fair concludes with 55.3 mn record book sales in 12 days

Guwahati: The 12-day Assam Book Fair, Guwahati successfully concluded with a record 55.3 million book sales. The All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association and the Assam Publications Council jointly hosted the book fair in Guwahati from December 29, 2022 to January 9, 2023.
"This Assam Book Fair is an outstanding example of private public cooperation system effectively conducted by Assam Prakashan Parishad and Sadao Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association," Dr. Ranoj Pegu stated in his address. The book expo attracts a sizable crowd each year.
"Not just newspapers and magazines; Books should also be edited in a format," he urged the authors and publishers.
The Translation Literature Award will be offered starting in 2019 by the Assam Publications Council. Rs. 1 lakh will be awarded as the first prize, and Rs. 50,000 as the second. The minister said that the Publications Council will provide workshops on creative writing.
He made reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to "Read India, Grow India" and urged everyone to form the habit of reading books. Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Guwahati Ruhul Amin attended the meeting as the main guest. In his address, he said that "people will now be able to find employment in the UK." The book expo has books accessible in several languages.
Ranjit Shekhar Musahari, a former governor of Meghalaya, was also present as the meeting's principal guest, along with Dr. Dinesh Goswami, vice president of the Assam Publications Council, and Nagen Sharma, president of the All Assam Book Publishers and Sellers Association.
The Assam Publications Council has published 52 rare books this year in addition to 38 new works this year. 90 significant books in all have been released by the council. The reading community has embraced these novels, both classic and contemporary. "Chief Minister's Diary-1," which was released by Saraswati Printers and Pvt Ltd in the meantime, has gotten positive reviews from readers. Readers of all ages want to get their hands on the book. The book expo offers fresh publications from other publishing firms as well.
Assam Book Hive has announced the publication of the second edition of Devjit Bhuyan's book "Assamese Mother's Pranam" based on the life of Lata Mangeshkar. The Assam Publishing Company's translation of Gulzar's memoir "The People of Memory" by Namrata Dutta was also available at the book fair.
