The much-awaited Assam Book Fair 2024-25 is all set to take place from December 27 to January 7, 2025, at the Veterinary Field in Khanapara as decided by the Assam Publication Board and other dignitaries due to the ongoing flyover construction in the city. This new venue will offer ample space for parking and ensure better crowd management, as assured by the organizing committee.
The flag-posting ceremony for the event was held today at the Veterinary Field in the presence of the Publication Board Committee, GMC Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Padma Shri awardee Drona Bhuyan (known for Suknani Ojapali and Deodhani dance), and other respected citizens.
"This year, we are expecting a larger crowd. The Veterinary Field offers enough space for parking, stalls, and exploring the fair freely. Last year, we had 100 publication stalls, but this year, there will be over 300 stalls, including 100 publication-specific ones. Unfortunately, Bangladesh will not participate due to their ongoing political crisis. However, we have invited stalls from across India," Secretary of the Assam Publication Board Pramod Kalita said during an exclusive interview with Business North East (BNE).
Speaking of the budget involved, he said that last year, the budget was approximately Rs. 75 lakhs, but they plan to increase it to around Rs. 80 lakhs this year.
