A scheme under the National Health Mission, Assam

The Assam Arogya Nidhi (AAN) is an initiative that serves the underprivileged sections of society, especially those families with monthly incomes lower than Rs.10, 000 and families who are Below Poverty Line (BPL).

Procedure

Financial assistance is provided for the general or specialized treatment of the following conditions:

  • Life-threatening illnesses include the following:
  • Heart diseases
  • Kidney diseases
  • Urinary diseases
  • Cancer
  • Thalassemia
  • Orthopedic diseases
  • AIDS
  • Bone marrow transplant.
  • Mental illness that is chronic with surgical treatment.
  • Injuries as a result of man-made or natural disasters (bomb blasts, accidents, etc.)

Beneficiaries are selected by a Selection Committee that has been notified by the Government of Assam. Under AAN, the Government of India contributes 50% of the funds sanctioned by the State Government.

Progress

As on date, 822 patients have availed of the benefits of the Assam Arogya Nidhi.

Conclusion

Thus, this scheme is very beneficial for the treatment of life-threatening diseases like Heart Diseases and Heart Surgery, Cancer, Kidney and Urinary diseases, Orthopedic, Thallassemia, Bone marrow Transplant, AIDS, chronic Mental Illness with Surgical Treatment, etc., and injuries caused by natural and man made disasters, such as industrial/farm/road/rail accidents, bomb blasts, etc.
