Assam Achieves Modest 3.9% Retail Inflation in July; CM Credits Strategic Policies for Stable Pricing
Guwahati: Assam has stood out in July with one of the nation's most modest retail inflation rates, marking a mere 3.9 percent. The latest data disclosed by the National Statistical Office underscores this achievement.
Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir were also notable for reporting similarly low inflation figures, recording rates of 3.7 percent and 5.0 percent, respectively.
Responding to these retail inflation numbers, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma underscored the state government's commitment to managing inflation and extending relief to citizens. He credited this accomplishment to a series of policy measures aimed at maintaining stable pricing.
The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) highlighted the impact of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma's strategic interventions, positioning Assam as one of the states with the nation's lowest inflation rate, standing at 3.9 percent.
In contrast, Rajasthan marked the highest inflation rate in July at 9.7 percent, followed by Jharkhand at 9.2 percent, according to the data.
National Statistical Office data pointed out that the consumer price index (CPI), employed to assess retail inflation, was driven by elevated costs of vegetables and cereals. The retail food index surged to 11.5 percent during the month, a notable increase from June's 4.6 percent.
Additionally, the data unveiled that out of the 22 states analyzed, 14 experienced inflation rates surpassing the Reserve Bank of India's threshold limit of 6 percent. Exclusively Delhi, Assam, Jammu & Kashmir, and West Bengal managed to maintain inflation rates below 6 percent.
Furthermore, the data drew attention to higher retail inflation in rural areas, which reached 7.6 percent, compared to 7.2 percent in urban regions.
