Bengaluru: American semiconductor leader AMD is increasingly focusing on India, not just as a burgeoning market but as a key development hub for its global operations. The company’s design centre in Bengaluru has become a significant contributor to AMD’s product innovation, said CEO Lisa Su during her visit to the country.
Lisa Su highlighted AMD's robust commitment to India, recalling last year’s pledge to invest 400 million dollars over five years in research and development. She noted that the company is likely to meet this target much sooner due to its rapid pace of investment and innovation in the region.

India is an integral part of AMD. Every segment of our global product portfolio involves contributions from our design centre here,” Lisa Su emphasized. She also pointed out India’s dual strength in hardware and software, which has prompted AMD to double its workforce in India over the past two years.

Additionally, Su revealed that AMD is in the process of building two supercomputers in India, underscoring the country’s importance not only as a market but also as a talent hub for the company’s ambitious goals.
The CEO was in Bengaluru to inaugurate the second phase of AMD’s Technostar campus, a move aligned with the company’s vision to develop a robust semiconductor ecosystem in India. This ongoing investment also supports India’s aspiration to become a global leader in semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence.

Lisa Su commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'strong and pragmatic vision’ for advancing the semiconductor and AI sectors in India. She noted that the government’s policies, including the ‘Make in India’ initiative and focus on AI, are expected to attract global companies and build a thriving local infrastructure.

With this collaboration, AMD is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s technological landscape, contributing to its ambition of becoming a global semiconductor powerhouse.
