Additional Bandwidth commissioned by BSNL for high-speed internet in NE.
The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has recently commissioned additional international bandwidth for making available high-quality and high-speed internet access to the northeastern region. It is commissioned through Cox’s Bazaars in Bangladesh.
The decision was stated in a written reply by the Minister of Act East Policy Affairs Department Chandra Mohan Patowary in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
According to Patowary, this initiative will facilitate the reduction of latency and congestion in internet traffic to and from the region.
Patowary further added that the Centre is undertaking various developmental activities, including connectivity and infrastructure projects, as a part of the Act East Policy. This would be beneficial to Myanmar, Bangladesh and the northeastern states of India.
Stressing its importance Patowary claimed that the successful completion of a trial run for transhipment of cargo movement from Kolkata to the northeast through the Mongla Port in Bangladesh in July- August 2022 marks a new era in connectivity for New Delhi and Dhaka.
He reminded us that the Agartala- Akhaura rail link between India and Bangladesh is soon to be completed. Work for reviving the defunct railway transit facility between India and Bangladesh through Mahisasan point on the international board with Bangladesh at Karimganj district is also going on in full swing.
Consent was also issued by the Government of Assam for Viability Gap Funding under the International UDAN Scheme for the Guwahati- Bangkok and Guwahati-Dhaka Sectors as said by Patowary.
The Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of India as well as the State Government have given No-objection certificate to start the Guwahati- Dhaka bus service.
