Guwahati: The Assam government has increased liquor prices in certain categories by 65%.
Assam's Excise Department has issued a gazette notification announcing an increase in alcohol pricing from June 15.
According to the notification, in the exercise of the powers provided by section 84 of the Assam Excise Act, 2000 (Assam Act XIV of 2000), the Governor of Assam promulgated further rules to alter the Assam Excise Rules, 2016 and rename them the Assam Excise (Amendment) Rules, 2022.
The hike is effective for Rum, Brandy, Whiskey, Gin, Liquor Cordials, and other comparable alcoholic beverages made in India.
