10 day special skill development programme for taxi drivers

Guwahati: A 10-day special skill development programme was inaugurated on June 4, 2023 for upskilling of Taxi Drivers of Guwahati International Airport under Assam Skill Development Mission, Government of Assam at the Centre for Aviation, Tourism and Hospitality Studies at Guwahati International Airport.

The program aims to enhance the skills of taxi drivers and create a highly skilled workforce in the region.

The 10 day programme was inaugurated by Chief Airport Officer, Utpal Baruah and Managing Director of Assam Skill Development Mission, Ankur Jain.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including District Project Manager of Assam Skill Development Mission, Nilotpal Kalita, and President of Ideal Abhijan NGO Jorhat, Dibyajyoti Borah, along with many senior officials from relevant departments were also present to support and encourage the participants in their learning and upskilling journey.

IPS Ankur Jain delivered the inaugural speech, followed by a speech from Chief Airport Officer Utpal Baruah.

More than 100 taxi drivers from the region, as well as other staff from LGBI Airport, Guwahati, attended the ceremony.

The state government has entrusted the Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) with the responsibility of upskilling all stakeholders in the airport region within the next year. The goal is to establish a recognized and esteemed trained workforce in the Northeastern state. These initiatives are currently being implemented on a pilot basis, with the aim of expanding them in the future.
