Dhaka: As per reports, Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, has urged China to consider relocating some of its solar panel factories to Bangladesh, as the country faces growing export restrictions. This suggestion was made during a meeting in Dhaka on Sunday with Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen.
Yunus, who took charge of the interim government on August 8 following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led administration, emphasized the potential benefits of such a move for both nations. He highlighted that the relocation could bolster Bangladesh's green economy and diversify its export portfolio, according to reports from the BSS news agency.
Reportedly, China, currently the world's largest producer of solar panels and a leader in both photovoltaics and solar thermal energy, is encountering increasing challenges in the global export market. Yunus suggested that relocating manufacturing to Bangladesh could serve as a strategic response, benefiting both countries.
In addition to urging closer economic collaboration, Yunus called for enhanced technological transfer, as well as increased cooperation in disaster management, education, and agriculture. He also stressed the importance of boosting Chinese imports of Bangladeshi goods to strengthen economic ties.
Ambassador Yao conveyed the Chinese leadership's greetings to Yunus and expressed Beijing's readiness to collaborate with the interim government. He noted the recent elevation of China-Bangladesh relations to a "comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership" and extended an invitation for Yunus to visit Beijing. Yao expressed confidence in Yunus's leadership, predicting a brighter future for Bangladesh under his guidance.
