Workshop on bamboo craft held in Nagaland

Dimapur: India EXIM Bank Mumbai, in collaboration with Rashtriya Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN) in Guwahati, successfully conducted a month-long training-cum-workshop on ‘Bamboo Craft Design Development’ for 25 local artisans.

The training took place from May 30 to July 3. A valedictory function was held on July 7 at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre conference hall in Chumukidima, with Taliwati Longchar, Joint Director of the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), as the guest of honour.

During the valedictory function, Taliwati Longchar emphasised the importance of continuous skills upgrading for craftsmen and the improvement of product design through innovative ideas and approaches. He also highlighted various service facilities and schemes provided by the Ministry of MSME for entrepreneurs and artisans clusters. Additionally, he addressed the critical challenges faced by local entrepreneurs in Nagaland.

Sandhya Arekar from India EXIM Bank Mumbai spoke about the significance of the training and workshop. She emphasised that the programme would lay the foundation for developing a pool of skilled local craftsmen capable of producing high-quality craft products that can compete in the international market.

One of the trainee artisans, Runoyhu Keppen, shared his enriching experiences and the skills he acquired during the training. He expressed gratitude to the trainers, Ruovilhoukhu and Rokolhoukho Thorie, for their technical guidance and support, as well as to others who catered to their needs and requirements.
