Guwahati: Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Assam Start-Up and Handique Girls College in Guwahati, Assam, was signed on June 21.

Business North East spoke with Dr. Ranjit Sarma, Principal of Handique Girl’s College, who highlighted the opening of the Institution Innovation Council at the college as a key initiative stemming from this agreement.

Bhuban Talukdar, a faculty of the first girl's college in the region shared with Business North East that this is a non-financial MoU. He explained, "The government of Assam has specific objectives in alignment with the centre's Institutions Innovative Council of Higher Education Department. Both these initiatives form the basis of the MoU. Programs such as workshops and orientation sessions will be conducted to encourage students."

Assam Start-Up will provide resource persons for these programs. If any college student wishes to go on an exposure trip to meet a successful start-up, Assam Start-Up will arrange the meeting, while the college will manage the logistics. Previously, they had sent some students to Sonapur College, which proved to be a highly successful initiative.

Once the college reopens, similar trips and training sessions will resume. The signing ceremony was attended by Chinmoy Prakash Phookan, Managing Director of AIIDC, and representatives from Assam Start-Up. Associate Professor Sanjay Das also attended. Recently, the college conducted self-establishment training in media for students, which included a 1.5-hour session led by a resource person covering print media, editing, and electronic media. The committee for this initiative was formed at the end of February 2024.

Business North East also spoke with Rajarshi Sharma, who mentioned that students could apply to participate in their training programs. Rajarshi Sharma stated, “We aim to encourage women entrepreneurs. If students have a start-up idea, we can mentor them.”

He further mentioned collaborations with other institutions such as Cotton College (Cotton College State University) and Sonapur College.
