Assam Government notifies it's the decision to enhance wages of tea garden workers.

The Assam Government has officially notified about the increase in daily wages of tea plantation workers of both the Brahmaputra and Barak valleys.

Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Labour Welfare Department Kalyan Chakravarthy issued the notification enhancing the minimum interim wage of tea plantation workers by Rs 27.

Accordingly, the tea plantation workers in the Brahmaputra Valley shall get Rs 232 against the existing Rs. 205, and the tea plantation workers in the Barak Valley shall get Rs. 210 against the existing Rs. 183 per day.

Previously, on August 10, various tea associations and workers' associations met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and requested an enhancement of Rs. 27 in the daily wages of tea labourers.

With this hike, the tea workers in Brahmaputra Valley will receive Rs. 232, while tea plantation workers in Barak Valley will get Rs. 210.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a meeting for the fixation of minimum wages for tea plantation workers with the stakeholders on August 10 where it was decided to hike the wages of all workers by Rs. 27.

It was also decided during the meeting that all tea garden workers will be given rations as earlier and the management of tea gardens will be provided with a licence to operate Fair Price shops within the garden area.
