Vice President to confer Sant Kabir and National Handloom Awards in New Delhi in 7th August 2024

The 10th National Handloom Day will be celebrated on 7th August 2024 in New Delhi, with the  Vice President of India as the Chief Guest. Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh and Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita will attend the function. 

Over 1000 weavers from across the country will attend, and Sant Kabir Awards and National Handloom Awards will be conferred to handloom weavers for their outstanding contributions in the handloom sector. The Vice President will release an Award Catalogue and Coffee Table Book, "Parampara- Sustainability in Handloom Traditions of India."

The government started celebrating National Handloom Day in 2015, specifically chosen to commemorate the Swadeshi Movement launched on 7th August 1905. The day aims to honor handloom weavers and provide motivation and pride to the handloom industry by appreciating their contribution to the cultural, traditional, and economic landscape of the country. 

Activities are being organized across the country, including a social media campaign through My Gov portal, an exclusive exhibition of handloom products at Handloom Haat, a special sourcing show at Varanasi, a Know Your Weaves event at the Crafts Museum, and handloom expos and awareness activities in colleges.
