Dehradun: According to the state government, Uttarakhand's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has grown by 1.3 times over the past 20 months. During a press conference, R Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary of energy, housing, and planning, stated that the GSDP growth has been influenced by new state government policies, changes in existing ones, and ongoing employment and self-employment initiatives. He stated that the state's per capita income increased from Rs 2,05,000 in 2021-22 to Rs 2,60,000 in 2023-24, with a 26 percent growth in the past two years, surpassing the national average.
He mentioned that the average income per person in the country rose by 20 percent, from Rs 1,50,906 to Rs 1,84,000, over a two-year period. As per the Periodic Labor Force Survey conducted by the central government, the participation rate of individuals aged 15 to 29 in the workforce in the state rose from 43.7 per cent in 2022-23 to 49 per cent in 2023-24. In the same way, the state's employment population ratio has risen from 37.5 percent to 44.2 percent.
The official noted that women's involvement in the labor force has risen from 26.1 pc to 32.4 pc among those aged 15 to 29, and from 37 pc to 43.7 pc among those above 15 years old. He explained that the promotion of Lakhpati Didi Yojana and women self-help groups in the state has led to a rise in the employment population ratio of women. Based on the most recent survey, the state's unemployment rate dropped from 14.2 pc in 2022-23 to 9.8 pc in 2023-24. The state's unemployment rate saw a 4.4 decrease.
