Dhaka: Following the resignation of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, speculation has arisen about her potential arrival in Agartala. The Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura and Assam has tightened security along the international border and issued alerts at airports in both states. Officials at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala have not received any information regarding her arrival and confirmed that she has not yet arrived.

The recent turmoil in Bangladesh has been a major concern. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left India for London at 1:00 AM local time. West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose assured that India's border with Bangladesh is secure amid the neighboring country's crisis and urged people not to pay attention to rumors. Bose also constituted a "watchdog panel" to clarify any disinformation.

In a significant development, the Bangladesh President has ordered the release of jailed ex-PM Khaleda Zia. Pankaj Saran, a former Indian high commissioner to Dhaka, cautioned that India must be "very vigilant" on the border amid the crisis, asserting that New Delhi is prepared for all eventualities.

In response to the upheaval, Nepal has heightened security along its southern border with India, fearing potential infiltration from violence-hit Bangladesh. The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed security agencies to maintain high alertness along the border to prevent unauthorized entry.

The last two weeks in Bangladesh have seen unprecedented violence and tragic loss of life. The Chief of the Army Staff announced a transitional period, emphasizing the need for all parties to work together to end the violence, restore calm, and prevent further loss of life. The UK has expressed its desire to see action ensuring a peaceful and democratic future for Bangladesh, highlighting the deep people-to-people links and shared Commonwealth values between the two nations.
