Guwahati: Anupam Deka from Darrang district and Nirmal Deb from Cachar are two entrepreneurs who will be honoured with the prestigious Assam Civilian Awards at this year's ceremony.

While Deka is a prominent industrialist from his region, Deb is known for his shital pati (a kind of handcrafted mat) enterprise.

Ranjan Gogoi, the former Chief Justice of India, is set to receive the Assam Baibhav Award 2023, the state's highest civilian honour, for his remarkable achievements in the realm of law and justice. The awards, named Assam Baibhav, Assam Saurav, and Assam Gaurav, aim to recognize outstanding contributions in various fields.

The state government has selected 22 recipients across diverse categories for the prestigious Assam Saurav and Assam Gaurav awards. From archaeology to sports, environmental activism to entrepreneurship, the awardees represent excellence in their respective fields.

The awards ceremony is scheduled for February 10, with the Vice President of India serving as the Chief Guest. Assam's civilian awards, akin to the Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards, celebrate exceptional individuals who have significantly impacted society.

Expressing congratulations and gratitude to all recipients, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the significance of the Assam Baibhav Award as the highest state civilian honor. He shared that the award ceremony would witness the presence of the Assam Governor and the Vice President of India. CM Sarma reflected on the esteemed history of the Assam Baibhav Award, noting previous recipients such as Ratan Tata and Tapan Saikia.
