Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has taken the initiative to make government offices, courts, schools, colleges and institutions in the state plastic-free, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to ban single-use plastic across the country since July last year.

Saha has emphasised the importance of reducing plastic usage and highlighted that a plastic-dependent lifestyle can lead to various health issues and diseases.

The toxic particles from plastic carry an increased risk of diseases like cancer. Therefore, raising awareness about the harmful effects of plastic and garnering public support are crucial in achieving the goal of a plastic-free Tripura, he asserted.

The chief minister also emphasised that the government establishments should take the lead in this mission, setting an example for the rest of the state. It is essential for the administration to take a strong stance against the use of plastic and enforce the necessary measures to make government institutions plastic-free.

By implementing these measures, Tripura aims to contribute to the larger goal of reducing plastic waste and promoting a more sustainable and environmentally friendly society.
