Torrent Power gets order to supply 2,000 MW pumped storage capacity in Maharashtra

New Delhi: Torrent Power announced on Tuesday that it has been awarded a contract by the Maharashtra government to provide 2,000 megawatt energy storage capacity from its future plant in the state. Torrent Power has announced that it has been given an order for an extra 500 MW of capacity, on top of the 1,500 MW awarded previously, making the total supply order 2,000 MW capacity.                  

The company stated that they have been awarded a letter by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for the extended provision of 2,000 Megawatt (MW) Energy Storage Capacity from InSTS connected pumped hydro storage plant. MSEDCL will buy energy storage capacity from Torrent Power's intra state transmission connected pumped hydro storage for 40 years.

The company intends to provide storage capacity from its new storage facility in Maharashtra. Torrent Power has also located Pumped Storage Project (PSP) sites in various states. The company previously stated that it plans to build approximately 5 to 8 GW of PSP capacity, requiring an investment of Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 crore.
