Shillong: SwitchON Foundation, an environment conservation society, organised an awareness programme in collaboration with NABARD for its Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) as part of the Mission Life campaign.

The event took place at the community hall in Rngikseh village in West Khasi Hills in the state on the occasion of World environment Day. It aimed to raise awareness among farmers and the community about the importance of adopting sustainable practices to mitigate the effects of climate change and conserve natural resources.

Farmers were sensitised about key topics, such as energy and water conservation, avoiding single-use plastic, adopting sustainable agriculture practices, waste and e-waste management, and embracing a healthy lifestyle. The topics of awareness also included agriculture for sustainable development, global environmental changes and plant resource utilisation.

Vinay Jaju, MD, SwitchON Foundation, said, “At SwitchON Foundation, we believe that collective action is the key to addressing the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation. Through initiatives like Mission Life, we aim to empower individuals and communities to become agents of change and adopt sustainable practices.”

A representative from Ka Thupki Nongrep FPO Cooperative Society Limited, said, “It (the programme) has opened our eyes to the importance of protecting our environment and preserving our natural resources. We are committed to implementing sustainable practices in our farming and daily lives.”

During the event, an environment protection oath was administered to all participants, encouraging them to take an active role in the campaign and implement sustainable practices in their daily lives.
