Seoul: Samsung unveiled its latest wearable, the Galaxy Ring, at the Galaxy Unpacked event on Wednesday, marking a significant expansion of its health and fitness technology portfolio. Promoted as a key component of its AI-enhanced ecosystem, the Galaxy Ring represents Samsung’s entry into the niche market of smart rings, which have garnered attention recently, notably with their use by the England men's football team.

Smart rings, equipped with miniaturized sensors to track health metrics, have not yet reached mainstream popularity. However, Samsung's involvement could change that, as it becomes the most prominent tech giant to venture into this space. According to Ben Wood, an analyst at CCS Insight, Samsung's move is an "interesting bet," with projections of around four million smart rings being sold globally by 2025. Despite this figure being minor compared to the 250 million smartwatches expected to sell, Wood notes the potential for growth.

Francisco Jeronimo, an analyst at IDC, believes Samsung's entry could boost the smart ring market. He points out that for many consumers, the Galaxy Ring will be their first encounter with such technology, which could enhance its long-term popularity.

James Kitto, Vice President and Head of Samsung's mobile division in the UK & Ireland, celebrated the launch, calling it a "huge moment" for Samsung. With this move, Samsung aims to bring smart rings into the mainstream and further integrate AI into its health-tracking technologies.
