Revenue model needed to ramp up Assam sports economy, says football association secy

Guwahati: Sangrang Brahma, the Honorary Secretary of the Assam Football Association, emphasized the need for meticulous planning and strategic initiatives to foster the development of the sports economy. 

Speaking to Business North East during the Guwahati Premier Football League held at the Guwahati Sports Association, Brahma outlined key components for success in this endeavor.

He stressed the importance of formulating a robust revenue model alongside the establishment of sustainable sports clubs that play a pivotal role in nurturing local talent. "A strategic revenue model is imperative to support the growth of our sports economy. Sustainable sports clubs are essential for grooming our players and providing them with a solid platform for their careers," added Brahma.

The Guwahati Premier Football League, initiated by the Guwahati Sports Association, is a bold step towards professionalizing football in the region stated Brahma. He sees it as a crucial platform offering abundant opportunities for emerging footballers in Assam.

Expressing the need for private sector involvement, Brahma through Business North East, urges the private investors to bolster sports promotion in Assam. He noted, "Private investors can play a vital role in promoting sports in our state.

Highlighting the existing talent pool in Assam, Brahma acknowledged the emergence of numerous training and coaching centers, both from private and government sectors. 

The Assam Football Association has also spearheaded various initiatives, including women's leagues and youth leagues, aimed at nurturing and showcasing local talents.

To elevate the standards of Assam's players to a national level, Brahma puts thrust in organizing inter-state leagues and providing extensive training opportunities. He stated North East United Football Club (NEUFC) as a commendable example, higlighting it's efforts in leveling up the game and honing players' skills.

In the quest for sports sector development, Brahma drew parallels with global practices, citing countries like Spain, where children are trained from a very young age to prepare them for competitive sports.

Looking ahead, Brahma shared the association's plans to Business North East, to organize more football leagues in the coming year, with a specific focus on promoting the sport among today's youth.
