Guwahati: Ratan Tata, the esteemed former chairman of Tata Sons, has played a significant role in Assam's development through numerous initiatives led by the Tata Group. These contributions span across social welfare, economic investments, and disaster relief efforts, profoundly impacting the state and improving the lives of its people.

His vision, integrity, and dedication to the nation transformed industries and lives. A guiding light for generations, his legacy of compassion and leadership will continue to inspire. My condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Tata Group. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

In recognition of his contributions, Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, was awarded Assam's highest civilian honor, the Assam Baibhav, in 2022 for his contributions to cancer care in the state. The award ceremony took place at Mumbai's Taj Wellington Mews on February 16, 2022, where Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented the award. The Assam Baibhav includes a citation, a medal, and a cash award of ₹5 lakh.

Tata’s contributions include a ₹540 crore initiative approved by the Tata Trust Board of Trustees in 2017 to establish a three-level cancer care grid across Assam. In 2018, foundation stones were laid for 19 modern cancer care facilities, including 12 comprehensive centers at government medical colleges. The Tata Group's collaboration with the Assam government has also established multiple cancer care hospitals across the state. The Assam Baibhav award honors distinguished personalities for their contributions in fields like education, health, entrepreneurship, and sports.
