The first-ever Bodoland Mohotsav was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today in New Delhi. The two-day cultural celebration highlights language, literature, and the rich traditions of the Bodo community. The occasion signifies a major achievement in Bodoland's transformation from years of strife to a newfound era of harmony, cohesion, and advancement.
During his speech, the Prime Minister extended greetings to the country on the special day of Kartik Purnima, Dev Deepavali, and the 555th Prakash Parv of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He also emphasized the significance of the day as India observed Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
Modi described the event as "an emotional moment," as he looked back on the incredible change in Bodoland, a region that had experienced years of violence but was now marking its inaugural unity festival. He remembered his trip to Kokrajhar post the Bodo Peace Accord in 2020, appreciating the warmth and affection shown by the Bodo community, which strengthened his optimism about the region's promising prospects.

The Prime Minister highlighted the major progress Bodoland has made following the peace deal. He observed that in Assam alone, more than 10,000 young people had given up violence and embraced peace, helping the region's development. Modi highlighted the government's dedication to achieving lasting peace in the region through the successful execution of agreements such as the Karbi Anglong Accord, Bru-Reang Accord, and NLFT-Tripura Accord.
Emphasizing the government's attention to the welfare of the Bodo community, Modi announced a dedicated Rs 1500 crore fund for the progress of Bodoland. Furthermore, the Assam government has approved more than Rs 700 crore for education, health, and infrastructure. More than 4,000 ex-militants have been reintegrated, and many have been given job opportunities, such as roles within the Assam Police force. The government has also provided Rs 5 lakh aid to every family impacted by the Bodo conflict.
Modi highlighted the importance of skill development, referring to the introduction of the SEED Mission, aimed at assisting Bodo youth in acquiring skills and securing improved employment prospects. The Prime Minister also commended the increasing cultural and sporting events in Bodoland, like the Durand Cup and the Bodoland Literary Festival, which honor Bodo literature and culture.
Modi spent time appreciating Bodo art and craft showcased at the Mohotsav, which included items with the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, contributing to the global preservation of Bodoland's cultural heritage. He also recognized the significance of sericulture and handloom industries, which have been encouraged by the Bodoland Sericulture Mission and Bodoland Handloom Mission.
When discussing tourism, Modi pointed out Bodoland's potential as a major tourist spot, emphasizing the lush forests of Manas and Raimona National Parks that are providing new job opportunities for the younger generation. He was confident that the expanding tourism sector in the region will continue to generate economic prospects. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the significant roles played by Bodo leaders like Shri Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma and Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma in advancing peace and unity.

At the end of his speech, Modi reiterated his faith that the peace efforts in Bodoland will establish a model for economic growth in the entire North East region. He praised Assam and the North East as India's "Ashtalakshmi", emphasizing the government's dedication to securing enduring peace and progress in the area.
