Guwahati: As the country gears up to celebrate the festival of lights, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pitch for indigenous products is gaining clear momentum, with many noted personalities extending their support to the campaign.

“The #VocalForLocal movement is getting great momentum across the country,” the prime minister posted on X (formerly Twitter). He attached a 3-minute video of the cast of the television serial ‘Anupama’ supporting the message through a small skit.

The Prime Minister has also urged citizens to share selfies with indigenous products on the Namo App and make payments via UPI.

‘X’ denizens, noting the originality and creativity of the campaign, lauded it for reinforcing a pertinent message.

“Love the Vocal for Local mission and the creativity coming along with it! Kudos to PM Narendra Modi and may goddess Lakshmi shower her blessings on Indian entrepreneurs and businesses this Diwali,” Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, the executive chairperson of Biocon, posted on the micro-blogging platform.

Responding to the tweet, the Prime Minister wrote, “Indeed, let’s make this Diwali about the hard work of 140 crore Indians. It is due to the creativity and relentless spirit of entrepreneurs that we can be #VocalForLocal and further India’s progress.”

‘Anupama’ actress Rupali Ganguly, who appeared in the video posted by the PM, said she was “extremely grateful” to be associated with a cause “that is dear to our honorable Prime Minister.”

Noted actor Anupam Kher, a staunch supporter of the Modi-led government, posted a video of students from Shri Nakoda Karna Deaf School in Thane who joined in the movement. Kher urged his followers to join the initiative “with full enthusiasm.”

Actor Varun Sharma called on his more than followers on X to use khadi products “and bring a smile on as many faces as we can.”

“Indian craftsmanship is one of the best in the world,” ‘Badhaai Do’ actress Bhumi Pednekar, who also supported the ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign, posted on social media. “Let’s celebrate our own heritage and join our PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji in spreading happiness across as many families as we can,” she added.

Taking to X, Bollywood star Jackie Shroff wrote, “When we buy one local product, we spread happiness amongst so many of our own people who have been a part of its journey. This Diwali let’s pledge to go Vocal for Local.’
