PM Narendra Modi Lays Foundation Stones For Major Projects In Northeast

Guwahati: In an important push towards infrastructure development in the Northeastern region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the basis stones for manifold projects across Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, and Sikkim under various central schemes. These schemes, authorized upon the reference of the respective State governments, are being implemented by themselves.

The projects, totalling Rs 2226.45 crore, are part of three major arrangements: PM-DevINE, NESIDS and Schemes of NEC. Rendering to Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, these initiatives aim to quicken socio-economic growth and update key infrastructure across the region.

In Assam, two main projects include the Maa Kamakhya Access Corridor (Maa Kamakhya Divyalok Pariyojana) with a venture of Rs 498.37 crore and the construction of a Medical College and Hospital at Demow, Sivasagar District, costing Rs 499.82 crore. Manipur will see the development of critical infrastructure such as the Manipur Technical University in Imphal West (Rs 51.16 crore), a 60-bedded State Mental Hospital in Lamphelpat (Rs 70.47 crore), and the infrastructure for the Manipur IT SEZ at Mantripukhri (Rs 120 crore).

Meghalaya will benefit from the construction of a new four-lane road and the upgrading of a two-lane in New Shillong Township with a venture of Rs 146.79 crore, along with an IT Park at Tura valued at Rs 126.94 crore. In Tripura, significant projects include the Agartala Government Dental College building (Rs 202 crore), a 200-bedded Maternal and Child Health Wing at AGMC GBP Hospital (Rs 192.09 crore), and an Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Drug-Addicted Persons (Rs 86.12 crore). Furthermore, Rs 80.79 crore will be owed for the joining of solar microgrids.

Other illustrious projects include the upgradation of the 132kV Sub-Station in Dimapur, Nagaland (Rs 24.46 crore), the construction of a Multipurpose Community Center in Soreng, Sikkim (Rs 14.15 crore), and infrastructure enhancements in Manipur such as the Tadubi to Chowainamei Khunou road improvement (Rs 41.66 crore) and a PSC bridge over the Leimakhong River (Rs 31.13 crore).

These projects reflect the government's promise to nurture growth and refine the quality of life in the Northeastern states through better connectivity, healthcare and technological infrastructure.
