Organic farming picking up in Manipur

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has assured Centre that the state will be able to encourage 100 percent natural and organic farming with the support and assistance from the Central Ministries.

Singh said this today at a video conference chaired by Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah on Natural Farming and Digital Agriculture.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that earlier only around 5000 hectare of land was utilized for organic farming which has now increased to 37000 hectare.

Regarding natural farming in the State, the Chief Minister said that natural farming in the State has improved much from before.

Considering the ill effects of the Chemical fertilizers, we are encouraging natural and organic farming, the Chief Minister said adding that locations where cattle are utilized in farming have been identified at four districts to set up Govardhan plants on pilot basis.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the State has already initiated process for digitization of Agriculture. He said that preparation to start the Agriculture Census of 2021-22 is complete and it will be initiated at the earliest.

Door to door enquiry will be conducted using Tablets/Smart phones to collect all relevant information of farmers and we are targeting to complete this by December, 2022, the Chief Minister said.

The video conference was also attended by Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar, Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Chief Ministers and Agriculture Ministers of different States.
