New Delhi: Odisha’s Transport Minister, Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, announced on Thursday that the state government has provided a subsidy of ₹154.27 crore to electric vehicle (EV) owners since the 2022-23 financial year. The subsidy scheme, which began on September 1, 2021, has contributed to a significant rise in EV sales across the state.
In a written statement during the assembly, Jena mentioned that ₹8.83 crore was distributed as subsidies in 2022-23, increasing to ₹57.21 crore in 2023-24. A total of 14,182 EVs received subsidies in 2022-23, which surged to 36,518 in 2023-24.
By August 2024, a total of 38,766 EVs had benefited from the subsidy program. The government offers a maximum subsidy of ₹20,000 for electric two-wheelers, calculated at ₹5,000 per kilowatt-hour, and ₹30,000 for electric three-wheelers.
