New Delhi: Vice President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, highlighted the critical role of the North-East region in India’s development during a recent event in Meghalaya. He praised the Look East and Act East policies for boosting communication, connectivity, and airport infrastructure in the region, emphasizing that these initiatives have been instrumental in integrating the Northeast into the nation's development narrative.

Dhankhar expressed concerns over the spread of unverified information on public platforms, stressing the importance of ensuring the accuracy of the information that the public consumes. He urged the youth to be well-informed about the nation’s demographics, growth trajectory, and its ambitious goal of becoming a developed country by 2047.

“Skilling is not merely a quality but a necessity,” the Vice President asserted, underscoring the importance of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. He further noted the government’s allocation of ₹60,000 crores to internships for 5 lakh young people over the next five years, reflecting a strong commitment to equipping the youth with practical skills.

Dhankhar also identified tourism as a vital economic driver for the North-East and emphasized the need to harness the region's natural resources through the development of skilled human capital.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Meghalaya Governor Shri C.H. Vijayashankar, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Cabinet Minister Dr. Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, and Meghalaya’s Chief Secretary Shri Donald Phillips Wahlang.
