Nitin Gadkari reviews Northeast highway projects, urges faster development

New Delhi: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari conducted a high-level review of the National Highway projects in four northeastern states - Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, and Nagaland on October 21. The meeting, held in Delhi, was attended by several prominent figures, including Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu, , Manipur CM Biren Singh, and , Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha. Senior officers from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, as well as Union Ministers of State, Shri Ajay Tamta and Shri H D Malhotra, were also present.

Gadkari also took to his X (formerly known as twitter) account to share a series of posts about these developments outlining progress in each state.

Sharing about the developments on Arunachal Pradesh, union minister Nitin Gadkari wrote, “Reviewed the progress of ongoing 15 National Highway projects spanning over 423 Km in Arunachal Pradesh along with Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju Ji, Union MoS Shri Shri Ajay Tamta Ji, Shri H D Malhotra Ji, Arunachal Pradesh CM, Shri Pe,a  Ji, and senior officials in Delhi today. The discussion centered on expediting development to ensure the timely completion of critical infrastructure, reinforcing our commitment to enhancing mobility and driving economic growth in the North-east region.

In another post he said, “Revolutionizing Arunachal Pradesh's highways with advanced infrastructure and sustainable mobility under PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji's visionary leadership, paving the way for a brighter future.”

Speaking of Manipur's developmental works, he wrote, “The focus of the meeting was on accelerating development in Manipur, ensuring timely completion of these vital infrastructure projects. This will not only improve connectivity but also drive economic growth, reaffirming our commitment to the advancement of the North-east region.”

The union minister also posted a video on Manipur along with a caption that says, “Transforming Manipur's highways with cutting-edge infrastructure under PM Shri  Narendra Modi ji’s leadership, unlocking growth and seamless connectivity for a prosperous future.”

Regarding the state of Tripura, Gadkari tweeted, “Reviewed the progress of 16 ongoing National Highway projects spanning 324 km in Tripura with Union MoS Shri  Ajay Tamta Ji, Shri  HD Malhotra Ji, Tripura CM Shri Dr Manik Saha Ji, and senior officials in Delhi today. In the meeting, we emphasized fast-tracking the development of highway infrastructure in Tripura, ensuring it is more sustainable and cost-efficient. These efforts will significantly improve connectivity, boost local economies, and further integrate the North-east into the national growth framework.”

“Revamping Tripura’s highways with futuristic infrastructure, paving the way for growth, seamless mobility, and prosperity under PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s visionary leadership,” he added in his post.

His posts reiterated the government's commitment to modernizing highway infrastructure across the North East, enhancing connectivity, and driving economic development in these regions.
