Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Tuesday announced the launch of a new Aadhaar mobile application that aims to revolutionise identity verification in India by eliminating the need for physical Aadhaar cards and photocopies.
Sharing details on social media platform X, the minister said the new app — currently in its beta testing phase — will introduce face ID-based authentication and allow users to share only essential information with complete control over their personal data.
“With just a tap, users can share only the necessary data, giving them complete control over their personal information,” Vaishnaw said.
The app is designed to make Aadhaar verification as seamless as a UPI transaction. Users will be able to digitally verify and share their Aadhaar details through QR code scanning or a requesting application, without the need for physical copies or scans.

“No more handing over Aadhaar photocopies at hotels, shops, or during travel,” the minister emphasized, adding that the app ensures enhanced privacy and data security by allowing sharing only with user consent.
According to Vaishnaw, the new Aadhaar app will not only simplify identity verification but also strengthen the overall privacy framework, preventing misuse or unauthorized access to Aadhaar data.
