Kohima: A fifteen-day skill development training program on banana fiber extraction and handicrafts is being organized in the Phek district of Nagaland with the aim of helping locals earn their livelihoods.
The 15-day training program was launched on November 16, 2023, at Pfutsero in the Phek district of the state. It is being jointly organized by the Chakhesang Mothers' Association and DIC Chozuba in partnership with Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre.
The training was inaugurated by Pfutsero MLA Neisatuo Mero.
Mero, during his opening remarks, advised the trainees to take “full advantage of the opportunity in acquiring the skill and technicalities.”
The training aims to enhance locals’ skills in banana fiber extraction and handicrafts, which, in turn, will allow them to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities and create a better future for themselves and their community.
The MLA further stressed “inculcating hard work, dedication, and consistency to be a successful entrepreneur.”
It is worth mentioning that banana fiber extraction is a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional textile production and craft-making. It can also be used to make tissue, filters, and currency paper.
