Mahindra South Africa achieves 20k Pik Up production mark at Durban plant

New Delhi: Mahindra South Africa, the South African branch of Mahindra, the Indian car manufacturer, has reached the milestone of manufacturing 20,000 Pik Up vehicles at its car assembly plant in Durban. The achievement was reached six years following the establishment of Mahindra's assembly plant in the African nation in May 2018. Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa, stated that the Mahindra Assembly Facility could be called the biggest and most intricate on the African continent among single-brand facilities producing vehicles monthly.

Mahindra is in the process of building a new assembly facility, set to finish by June 2025.Gupta stated that the upcoming assembly plant will be the cornerstone of Mahindra's upcoming expansion in South Africa.

The assembly plant enables us to satisfy the increasing need for Pik Up models locally and cater to the South African bakkie customer. He mentioned that the assembly plant is responsible for creating the Pik Up Karoo Dusk, Dawn, Storm, and Dew Special Edition models. Currently, there are 90 employees working on the assembly line at Mahindra.

The strong trade relationship between India and South Africa is most visible in the automotive sector. Prabhat Kumar, High Commissioner of India to South Africa, stated that Mahindra showcases the rise in trade and investment between the two countries, gaining popularity in the local market and steadily boosting its investments in South Africa.
