Loken Das Appointed as New CGM of NABARD

Guwahati: Loken Das has officially assumed the role of Chief General Manager (CGM) at the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in the Assam Regional Office, effective August 1, 2024.

Loken Das brings with him an impressive academic and professional background. He holds a Post Graduate degree in Agricultural Extension from Assam Agricultural University and was awarded the Junior Research Fellowship by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in 1994. Additionally, he possesses a Post Graduate Certificate in Business Management from XLRI and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance. He has also completed the Advanced Management Programme in Banking and Finance from the IIBF.

Joining NABARD in 1996, Das has accumulated extensive experience across various roles and regions, including Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Tripura, and the Head Office of NABARD. His diverse portfolio includes significant contributions to the development of Farm and Non-Farm Sectors, Business Innovations, Climate Change initiatives, and Bank Supervision. He has played a crucial role in credit planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of various developmental projects focused on agriculture, the non-farm sector, climate change, women empowerment, and the collectivization of farmers.

In his previous tenure as the Senior Consultant of NABARD Consultancy Services,  Das demonstrated his expertise in project planning and execution. From 2003 to 2012, he served as the District Development Manager of NABARD in Darrang district, Assam. During this period, he facilitated the financing of Small Tea Growers by banks, promoted the collectivization of farmers, and advanced the concept of Barie-proti-chakori (bari meaning homestead). He also played a key role in the promotion of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and SHG Federations.

Loken Das’s vast experience and strategic vision are expected to drive NABARD’s initiatives in Assam, focusing on sustainable agricultural and rural development.
