Kaziranga numbers soared with Modi visit: Assam CM

Guwahati: Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve in Assam has achieved a remarkable feat by receiving the maximum revenue in its 50-year existence, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted on Friday, adding that the Prime Minister’s recent much-publicized visit recent visit has “elevated its tourism potential.”

Biswa Sarma informed that the park has seen a considerable increase in the number of tourists: it recorded its highest turnout with over three lakh tourists visiting the Park in the last fiscal. He posted on X, “Kaziranga is fast developing as a preferred tourist destination and Adarniya Narendramodi ji's visit to the world heritage site recently has elevated its tourism potential by several notches." In the 2023-24 tourist season, 3,27,493 tourists visited the park, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 9 March visited Kaziranga National Park during a visit to Assam and took an elephant ride. He highlighted several unique aspects of the park in a series of social media posts.

Divisional Forest Officer of Kaziranga National Park Arun Vignesh said that the visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, two Presidents and the King of Bhutan helped popularise Kaziranga. Meanwhile, park authorities collected Rs 8.8 crore from tourists.

The Prime Minister has been promoting several iconic Indian locations, drawing international attention to their viability as tourist destinations. In January, he visited Lakshadweep, the picturesque chain of islands in the Indian Ocean. In February, Modi visited Dwarka and dived into the Arabian Sea off the coast of Gujarat to perform an underwater puja at the ancient site. 

Kaziranga National Park is famous for its one-horned Rhinoceros and is spread across the Golaghat, Nagaon, and Sonitpur districts of Assam. Kaziranga was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1985. The park has an area of some 430 square km and lies between the Brahmaputra River and the Karbi (Mikir) Hills.
