New Delhi: India's power sector met a maximum power demand of 250 GW on May 30, signalling the nation's burgeoning energy needs. Concurrently, thermal generation reaches an all-time high of 176 GW.

Additionally, thermal generation, a cornerstone of India's power infrastructure, surged to an unprecedented peak of 176 GW (ex-bus), particularly notable during non-solar hours. This achievement emphasized the operational efficiency and reliability of thermal power plants. The Northern region met record demands, hitting an all-time high of 86.7 GW, with the Western region also meeting a record demand of 74.8 GW on the same day.

Strategic initiatives like Section-11 have played a pivotal role in maximizing generation from imported coal and gas-based plants, bolstering the nation's thermal generation capacity.

Additionally, support from renewable energy sources, particularly solar during solar hours and wind during non-solar hours, has been instrumental in meeting peak demand, aligning with India's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

According to experts, India's growing energy requirements are driven by industrial expansion and rising residential consumption.
